The whole Magic Knight Rayearth experience was rousing good fun, but the OVA does make up for any bad vibes the series would have impressed on me. It could be that MKR got it right from the get-go. But it is the recent trend in Pretty Cure that the team breaks up. While disappointing, however, it did not detract from the game itself. The pace was exhilarating, though the ending seemed overplayed.

Magic Knight Rayearth began its course as a Japanese manga series created by the highly acclaimed, all-female staff of CLAMP (then including the talents of Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Satsuki Igarashi, and Tsubaki Nekoi). Multiplayer is supported via the Gamespy Network, and through straight TCP/IP. While there are other complexities, such as level-gaining, race-specific units, heroes, and the necessity for supply lines, Celtic Kings' structure removes more of the 'resource gathering' with straight-up combat. All units can be created quickly and easily, and are usually automatically garrisoned in elected buildings. The maps are fully created, with no ability to build (or even permanently destroy) buildings, only capture and damage existing structures. The publishing company rereleased the series as a box set with new cover art and a mini art book in November 2002, and as individual volumes from Augto December 9, 2003. Celtic Kings uses a much simpler interface than other, better known real-time titles. Magic Knight Rayearth was first published in English by Tokyopop from August 1998 to September 1999, as Tokyopop's debut manga.
